Meet Avery, M.A., Registered Psychotherapist (Independent Practice) #19652

Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, self-doubt, or the pressure of trying to navigate life’s challenges on your own? Avery provides compassionate therapy for teens (14+), adults, and couples who are navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, emotional challenges, relationship struggles, and major life transitions. She offers a warm, collaborative, and supportive space where clients can feel genuinely heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.

Avery believes that therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, safety, and authenticity. She recognizes that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and she is committed to creating a space where clients feel accepted exactly as they are. Through curiosity and collaboration, Avery helps clients explore their experiences, better understand themselves, and develop tools that support lasting growth and well-being.

Her approach is grounded in the belief that our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships are all connected. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Avery helps clients explore the deeper patterns and experiences that may be influencing how they see themselves and navigate the world around them. Together, she works with clients to identify unhelpful patterns, build self-awareness, and develop healthier ways of coping that feel authentic and sustainable.

Avery has a particular passion for supporting teens and adults who are struggling with self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth. She understands that many individuals carry feelings of self-criticism, perfectionism, comparison, or the belief that they are not "enough." Avery helps clients develop a stronger relationship with themselves by exploring where these beliefs come from, building self-compassion, and creating a more balanced and confident sense of identity.

Avery also supports individuals navigating anxiety, stress, depression, emotional regulation challenges, and life transitions. Whether someone is adjusting to a major change, feeling stuck in cycles of worry or self-doubt, or trying to better understand themselves and their emotions, Avery works alongside clients to build insight, resilience, and practical strategies that support meaningful change.

Clients working with Avery can expect a therapy space that is compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative. She believes that growth happens when people feel safe enough to be honest about their experiences and supported as they work toward becoming the person they want to be. At the core of Avery’s work is the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and positive change when given the right support and tools.

Avery holds a Master of Arts in Counselling from Yorkville University and is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She is committed to providing a supportive environment where clients can explore their challenges, strengthen their self-understanding, and move toward greater confidence, connection, and well-being.

Is Avery Burman accepting new clients?

Yes. Avery is currently accepting new clients for in-person therapy in Kanata and Stittsville, as well as virtual therapy across Ontario. Availability may change, so we recommend reaching out to our team or booking a consultation to find an appointment time that works best for you.

Does Avery have an area of specialty?

Yes. While Avery supports clients with a wide range of concerns, she has a particular passion for helping teens and adults navigate self-esteem challenges, anxiety, stress, and life transitions.

Avery understands that struggles with confidence and self-worth often go deeper than simply “thinking more positively.” Many individuals develop patterns of self-criticism, perfectionism, comparison, or people-pleasing based on past experiences and relationships. She helps clients explore these patterns, develop greater self-awareness, and build a healthier, more compassionate relationship with themselves.

Avery also supports individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional challenges, and periods of change. Through a collaborative and compassionate approach, she helps clients develop practical coping strategies, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful change that aligns with who they want to become.

What can I expect during my first appointment with Avery?

Your first session is an opportunity to begin building a comfortable and trusting therapeutic relationship. Avery will take time to understand what brought you to therapy, learn about your experiences and goals, answer any questions you may have, and begin exploring what support may be most helpful moving forward.

Avery believes therapy works best when clients feel safe, respected, and understood, so she prioritizes creating a space where you can show up authentically and at your own pace.

Does Avery offer virtual therapy?

Yes. In addition to in-person appointments in Kanata and Stittsville, Avery offers secure virtual therapy for clients across Ontario. Virtual sessions provide the same compassionate, personalized care while offering additional flexibility and convenience.

How do I know if Avery is the right therapist for me?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of the therapy process. Avery may be a great fit if you are looking for a warm, supportive therapist who values collaboration, self-exploration, and personal growth.

She works with clients who want to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Avery believes that meaningful change happens when clients feel genuinely heard, supported, and empowered throughout the process.

Are therapy sessions with Avery covered by insurance?

Avery is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Many extended health insurance plans provide coverage for Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying), but coverage varies between providers.

We recommend checking directly with your insurance company to confirm your benefits. Aura Counselling provides detailed receipts that can be submitted for reimbursement.

Do I need a doctor's referral to see Avery?

No. A doctor's referral is not required to book an appointment with Avery. You can contact Aura Counselling directly to schedule a session.

While some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, most clients can access therapy without one.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on your goals, concerns, and personal circumstances. Some clients may benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific challenge, while others choose longer-term support for deeper self-exploration and personal growth.

Avery works collaboratively with clients to regularly reflect on progress and ensure therapy continues to align with their needs and goals.
