Counselling in Kanata

Aura Counselling logo

If you're looking for counselling in Kanata, you're probably past the point of wondering whether you need it. Something in your life isn't where you want it to be, and you're ready to do something about it. Aura Counselling provides professional psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, families, and teens (14+) from our office in the Kanata-Stittsville area, with virtual sessions available province-wide.

Why People Seek Counselling

People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons. Some are dealing with a specific event: a breakup, a loss, a traumatic experience, a career upheaval. Others have a pattern they can't seem to break on their own: recurring anxiety, relationship cycles that keep repeating, or a persistent low mood that won't lift.

What most clients have in common is that they've tried to manage on their own and reached a point where outside support makes sense. That's not a weakness. It's a practical decision.

How Counselling Works at Aura

Counselling isn't a lecture. It's a conversation between you and a trained professional who can help you see what's hard to see on your own: the patterns driving your behaviour, the beliefs keeping you stuck, and the tools you already have but aren't using.

At Aura, every client is matched with a Registered Psychotherapist based on their specific concerns and goals. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical-Behavioural Therapy (DBT), somatic practices, and the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT).

What that means in practice: your therapist won't just listen and nod. They'll help you identify what's driving your distress, develop strategies that work for your specific situation, and hold you accountable to the changes you want to make.

Who We Work With

Individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, ADHD, attachment patterns, codependency, or relationship difficulties.

Couples navigating communication breakdowns, conflict patterns, trust issues, infidelity, parenting stress, or premarital preparation. Our couples work focuses on how partners interact in real time, not just the content of disagreements.

Families working through relational tensions, communication challenges, parenting dynamics, or transitions like blending households. Family therapy helps each member feel heard while strengthening the relationships that matter most.

Teens (14+) working through stress, academic pressure, identity questions, social challenges, anxiety, depression, or family dynamics. Our therapists create a space where teens can be honest without fear of judgment.

Our Team

Aura Counselling was founded by Maryse Hebert, a Registered Psychotherapist with specialized training in attachment-based and couples therapy through the PACT Institute. Our team includes therapists with training from the University of Ottawa and Yorkville University, each bringing a distinct specialization. We offer sessions in English, French, Nepali, German, and Hindi.

Every therapist on our team is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). That registration means they've met provincial standards for education, supervised clinical hours, and ongoing professional development.

What Counselling Costs

Sessions are 50 minutes at $180 per session. Sliding scale rates are available upon request for clients who need financial flexibility.

OHIP does not cover psychotherapy services. However, most extended health benefit plans through employers reimburse Registered Psychotherapist services. Each receipt includes your therapist's name and registration number for insurance claims. If you're unsure about your coverage, check with your benefits provider before your first session.

Getting Started

Reaching out is the hardest part. Here's what happens after that:

  1. You contact us through our website or by email at mhebert@auracounselling.ca. We respond within 48 hours.

  2. We match you with the therapist best suited to your concerns, goals, and scheduling needs.

  3. Your first session focuses on understanding what brought you in and what you want to work on. No pressure to share everything at once.

  4. Ongoing sessions build from there. The number of sessions depends on your goals and progress. Some clients come for a few months; others continue longer term.

We see clients in person at our Kanata-Stittsville office and virtually across Ontario. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday morning availability.
